We might not be going anywhere

It is a couple of days before July 4th, a time when Americans are reminded about the freedom and opportunities we have living in this country. It is undoubtedly a great place to live, but I do love to travel and want to bring Grace up experiencing all that this world has to offer. I would love to expose her to the people, food, art, culture, and adventures that await us when we travel to other countries.....but to do that Grace needs a United States passport. I filled out the forms and we are ready to do what it takes (that means sending her original documents from Guatemala in the mail to a passport agency - scary for me!) so she can freely cross our borders. I got over the fact that I have to mail her documents away (and pray that they come back!) so the only other thing we needed to do was have her passport picture taken. Easy, right? Not if you are Grace. She cried and cried. This is the best shot we got. Do you think they are going to accept it? She can't be the first stubborn toddler, who cried when she had to sit on a stool, in front of a white screen, with her mom holding her hand, for a split second, while the lady took the photo, could she?

Gee Grace, I can just imagine what you will say when you are old enough : "Mommy why did you let them use that picture?"!!! Aunt Phyl thinks it's adorable.
