View from the top

One of the things I really wanted to do was to hike up to Cerro de la Cruz for what people say is the best view of Antigua.  We got that opportunity on the second morning of our trip.

Cerro de la Cruz is a popular "lookout" point above the city.  You can access it via a winding road or a series of concrete steps.  It was one of the few times we saw people exercising as they ran up the steps for their morning workout.

From the top on a clear day you can see all three volcanoes that surround Antigua - Volcán Agua, Volcán Fuego, and Volcán Acatenango.

The cross, devoted to the city's patron saint, was installed in 1930. It looks south over the city toward Volcán Agua.
